We are often asked by potential clients what makes us different from other advisors. “There are many brokers, bank advisors and insurance agents to choose from. Is there any real difference between any of them and Premier?”
Our response to that question is: “We’re glad you asked. We feel there are many key differences that distinguish us from other firms.”
1. We are independent.
This is a major distinction. Premier Financial Group is an independent Securities Exchange Commission Registered Investment Advisor (SEC RIA). We have been serving clients for more than 25 years. We are 100% privately and locally owned and not beholden to any other company. Our clients enjoy freedom from commission-based sales pressures and other conflicts of interest.
2. Certified Financial Planner™ professionals.
Between Santa Rosa and Portland, no other firm has more Certified Financial Planner™ professionals than Premier. This is important because your unique financial and investment situation deserves the attention of a CFP®.
In total, we have five Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, a Registered Paraplanner™, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® and an Accredited Fiduciary Investment Manager™ as well as three team members with Master of Business Administration (MBA) and one with a PhD in Economics. 3. Premier specializes in working with high net worth families with complex estate and charitable planning needs as well as 401(k)s, 403(b)s, IRAs and other retirement plans.
At Premier, we have team members who specialize in specific areas such as company retirement plans, estate planning, wealth transfers and charitable gifting. We also have access to other financial specialists such as plan administrators, estate and ERISA attorneys, and tax professionals who we collaborate with extensively.
4. Premier does not “sell” investment products.
Financial advice should be delivered in an environment without conflicts of interest. As fee-only advisors, our business model minimizes this issue. We are compensated solely on a fee-basis which is calculated as a percentage of the assets that we manage for you.
Premier receives no compensation from the investment providers we recommend. Also, there are no front-load or back-load commissions, nor any charge to adjust allocations, to buy or to sell.
5. We are committed to the financial peace of mind of our clients.
Our investment strategy is a proven and highly strategic process that is based on decades of market evidence and the long-term needs of our clients. We do not engage in higher risk investment strategies like options, penny stocks, IPOs, or hedge funds. We also don’t pretend to be market timers and we don’t chase the latest trends.
6. We greatly value the personal relationships we have with our clients.
Many firms have automated 800-numbers with investment advisors who you may never meet.
Premier offers a personal approach to serving clients. We are committed to getting to know each client, their families, their financial goals and their preferences. You will find our team to be highly responsive to requests and understanding of your personal needs, concerns, and priorities.
A common complaint from investors we speak with is that they do not receive enough attention or information from their advisor. Industry research suggests that the typical financial advisor works with more than 1,000 client relationships. At Premier, we serve a moderate number of clients, allowing us to provide intimate, personalized service. We are proactive and try to anticipate each client’s needs in advance.
Investors have often gone long periods with no contact with their investment advisor and typically do not receive clear information about their costs or annual investment performance. At Premier, we offer to meet annually with each client and report their personal investment performance in writing, review their total investment costs and take a team approach to provide clients with guidance and financial planning. We have found few advisors that provide clients with this level of service and support.
7. As a SEC RIA, Premier is subject to full disclosure rules with strict compliance and government oversight requirements.
This means that we fully disclose items such as our investment management fee, information about our employment background and education, potential conflicts of interest and anything else that may influence your decision to work with us. These disclosures are filed with the SEC annually in the Form ADV I and ADV II. This differs significantly from brokers and bankers who are not subject to the same full disclosure rules making it difficult to understand an advisor’s fees, training, background and credentials.
8. As a SEC RIA, Premier is a fiduciary to you.
Being a fiduciary means we are required by law to put your interests ahead of our own. You may think this is a common practice in our industry, but the truth is that most financial advisors are not fiduciaries meaning that they are not required to put your interests’ first when making investment recommendations. Our fiduciary responsibility is a core value of our firm and is one of the key elements that separate us from other advisors.
